Mount Merapi Eruption 2010
Mount Merapi (2978m) is the most active volcano in Indonesia. As one of the volcanoes along the Indonesian part of Pacific Ring of Fire, it erupts approximately once every 4-5 years. The 2010 eruption however, is the biggest and most destructive in the last 150 years that forced more than 350.000 refugees who live on its slope and killed 275 villagers.
On the 6th Nov we went to Jogjakarta to volunteer ourself for the relief effort in Merapi disaster. We focused our effort to search and help the refugees who haven't receive any outside help.
Each day we kept finding new refugee camps on the eastern slope of Merapi
Each day we found people risking their life coming back to their farmland close to the summit just to feed their only cattle
Each day the ash raining down on us...
To this day, their struggle continues as recovery and rehabilitations have just begin...
this is their story
